Mining is associated with several environmental impacts, ranging from habitat loss to water pollution. Two important impacts that have wide ranging consequences for both the environment and surrounding communities are acid rock drainage (ARD) and mine dust. The research MtM conducts in this area therefore focuses on understanding the sources and consequences of mine dust and ARD and also on potential mitigating interventions.
