Water is likely to become an increasingly scarce resource in South and Southern Africa due to climate change. It is therefore imperative to understand and minimise the effects of mining on water resources. This research thrust covers frameworks for water accounting and management on mines and empowering mining communities to monitor the quality of their own potentially mining-impacted water so as to improve their capacity for effective advocacy.
