Dr M E Ramoroka

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Biography:

Dr. Morongwa Emmanuel Ramoroka is a postdoctoral researcher at the Catalysis Institute, Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Cape Town. His research focuses on the design of synthetic methods and the development of materials for sustainable energy conversion, particularly polymers and oxygen evolution reaction catalysts based on iridium and mixed-metal oxides.

He obtained his PhD in Chemistry from University of the Western Cape in 2022. His doctoral research focused on designing novel dendritic copolymers and their structural characterization for organic photovoltaic applications.

Dr. Ramoroka has expertise in materials synthesis, solar cell fabrication and testing, electrochemical techniques, and advanced materials characterization. His current postdoctoral research focuses on developing iridium-based electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction with enhanced activity and long-term stability in acidic media.

As part of his research development, he completed international research visits at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, Berlin, Germany and French National Centre for Scientific Research, Orleans, France, where he collaborated on advanced materials characterization and modelling photovoltaic device performance. These visits strengthened international research collaboration and expanded his expertise in energy materials research.

He has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles and has presented his work at local and international conferences on materials chemistry and renewable energy technologies.
