Doctoral study

Having completed an MSc in bio-process engineering, I have moved over to the environmental and process systems engineering for a doctoral study. My area of focus is on technology deployment for sustainable urban development. According to the UN, over 50% of the world's population lives in urban areas and there is still migration towards them Currently, there is an abundance of technologies in more developed countries used with a dearth of application in less developed countries. I am looking at biogas as the integrative technology of choice. Biogas has the added advantage of being a green energy source that also reduces the amount of methane that would normally enter the atmosphere from waste which would otherwise be sent to landfill. My research incorporates a few ideas. Primarily, how to decide on the best technology (not necessarily the most advanced or most expensive), as well as how to integrate it into the growing urban infrastructure as a sustainable, renewable technology.
