Progress on our biogas digester
A month ago we became proud owners of a 6 m3 pre-fabricated biodigester installed at Leo Marquard Hall, a UCT residence. A week later on the 15th February we lit the burner’s flame for the first in front of 15 colleagues who came to witness this milestone. We are still at the start-up phase and so far up to 4.2 kPa of gas pressure has been produced going at less than half of recommended feeding rate. We are closely monitoring the performance of the digester, by keeping track of pH, burning time and have recently started doing COD tests. Our digester is a work in progress, and the enthusiastic team is working hard to get the digester to steady state. We are grateful to stakeholders who continue to support us, especially the UCT catering management, kitchen staff, Marquard management!! Watch out for an update in the near future.
