Emeritus Professor Duncan Fraser, a long-standing member of our research group, passed away suddenly on Saturday 19 July, from complications after a stroke. Duncan was an authority on process integration, esp. on heat and mass exchange network synthesis and the associated mathematical programming. Most recently, he led a collaborative research project with colleagues in Slovenia and Brazil to apply such tools for optimisation of bio-refineries.

Many of us were taught by Duncan, who was a respected teacher in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cape Town since 1979.

Our last respects to a hard-working scholar, a dedicated teacher, a devout Christian and a jovial colleague.

Hamba kakuhle Duncan!
