Catalysis Institute Showcases Innovations at African Green Hydrogen Summit 2025
At this pivotal summit, the Catalysis Institute proudly exhibited, as part of the HySA Catalysis Centre, alongside sister HySA Centres of Competence that represent complementary expertise in various hydrogen technologies. The team showcased a comprehensive portfolio of cutting-edge fuel cell and electrolyser catalysts and membrane electrode assembly technologies, demonstrating South Africa’s innovative capabilities to support the continent’s hydrogen and fuel cell ambitions.
The event also underscored the strategic partnership between the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI), which play critical roles in funding, coordinating, and driving national hydrogen and fuel cell research and development. Their commitment to advancing these technologies aligns closely with the Catalysis Institute and HySA Catalysis programme’s mission to deliver scalable, sustainable solutions that can underpin a low-carbon energy future.
Engaging with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including international delegations from Europe, Asia, and neighbouring African countries, the institute highlighted opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and technology transfer. The summit provided an important platform to strengthen cross-border partnerships and advance a coordinated approach toward green hydrogen and fuel cell deployment in Africa.
The combined efforts of the HySA Centres at the summit reaffirm South Africa’s leadership in green hydrogen and fuel cell innovation, and the pivotal role of coordinated research, development, and industrialisation in enabling a just and sustainable energy transition for the continent.
