Frequency Band Multi Carrier: An insight into Cosine Modulated Multi-tone in Massive MIMO Systems

Abstract
Multicarrier techniques are widely being considered for the development of the most modern wireless communication systems such as the fifth Generation (5G) and Long Term Evolution (LTE) network systems. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has been popular and a highly recommended modulation scheme for LTE applications. Despite some of their numerous advantages, OFDM systems suffer from a few drawbacks such as channel estimation errors, high PAPR and low spectral efficiency. Filter bank Multicarrier (FBMC), with special focus on Cosine Modulated Multitone (CMT) system is another modulation technique that has evolved from OFDM. It overcomes these drawbacks as examined in this research. FBMC CMT system applies filter banks and omits a condition of severe out of band leakage of OFDM system. This research presents a performance analysis of the FBMC system using cosine modulated multitoned in comparison with OFDM system.
