Analytical Laboratory
CeBER staff and students have access to the Department of Chemical Engineering analytical facility, which includes atomic absorption (AA) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectrophotometry, X-ray fluorescence, total organic carbon (TOC) analysis, surface area (BET) and chemisorption, ZETASIZER (particle size analysis), surface charge measurement, total sulphur analysis and total acid digestion. The departmental modus operandi is such that research groupings contribute to the acquisition and operational expenses of the centrally housed equipment facility.
CeBER researchers may also access the QEM Scan operated by the Centre for Minerals Research (CMR). Some of the other equipment housed in the CMR laboratory is regularly accessed for CeBER projects. This includes for example the flotation cells.
Mechanical and Electronic Workshops
The Department of Chemical Engineering has well-equipped mechanical workshop and electronic workshop, manned by skilled technicians who are available to assist with the design and construction of customised reactors and related equipment.
