Digital Twins and Building Information Modelling in Civil Engineering

Dept. of Civil Engineering course
This course builds on existing engineering design knowledge and skills and aims to discuss the adoption of Digital Twin and BIM methodologies in enhancing the decision-making process in civil engineering projects ranging from structural engineering, construction management, urban planning and management, transportation engineering, and facility management. Students will consolidate the related fundamental theory, strengthen modelling and analysis skills and smart engineering knowledge. Different tools and methods associated with Digital Twin and BIM technologies will be presented and applied to case studies. Students will learn to holistically view and model complex civil engineering problems. This entails to structure the problem into suitable sub-problems and their interaction, to identify the appropriate software tools, and to establish the right integrated information and simulation system for analysis, optimisation, visualisation and monitoring.
