The Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Programme is affiliated to the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment (EBE) at the University of Cape Town.
A team of dedicated staff organise short courses, workshops and small conferences, which provide a means for the ongoing education of professionals and technical staff, outside of the formal academic courses offered at UCT for degree purposes.
Our CPD short courses
- Are designed to keep practitioners abreast with research and developments in their fields
- Team up academic research with practical know-how
- Address particular, current professional challenges and contexts
- Are approved by the University of Cape Town (UCT) as university course and registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) for CPD points
- Can, on request, be arranged as a custom programme at a date and venue of convenience
Who should attend?
Although many of the courses are specifically designed for professionals, students and the general public will greatly benefit from attending many of the CPD courses.
Generally, there are no formal academic qualification entrance requirements to CPD courses. In some cases, previous qualification may be required.
Accreditations
EBE CPD courses are registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), as CPD Category 1: Developmental Activities. In terms of the agreements between the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and other international engineering bodies, registered professionals of South Africa will be obliged to keep abreast of developments and knowledge in their fields of expertise in order to maintain and demonstrate their competence. All ECSA-registered persons are required to undertake and record CPD activities as a prerequisite to renewal of their professional registration.
The EBE CPD Programme at the University of Cape Town is accredited to run courses that will be acknowledged for obtaining CPD credits. The course facilitators involved in the programmes are academics and guest lecturers of the EBE Faculty, in instances invited guest presenters, are all experts in their fields.
Online courses
As of recent, some of our courses are available as online courses via the established education platform GetSmarter .
These courses are also university-approved short courses for CPD points; they have been developed with and are approved by a EBE course convener and are delivered by the GetSmarter teaching team.
