Mashaka Audry Lubenga
Mashaka Audry Lubenga is a PhD candidate and junior research Fellow at the Energy Systems Research Group (ESRG) at the University of Cape Town. His research focuses on characterizing the current and future electricity demand for copper and cobalt production in the DRC and developing optimal energy supply strategies using OSeMOSYS. He has a strong interest in the intersection of mining, energy planning, and sustainability, particularly how the mining sector can contribute to energy development in resource-rich but infrastructure-constrained regions. Within ESRG, he contributes to modelling energy systems for mining-intensive contexts and exploring policy-relevant pathways for low-carbon transitions. Contributed to the DRC OSeMOSYS energy model: determining the optimal energy mix. He is proficient in OSeMOSYS and MAED and is expanding his expertise to TIMES and LEAP.
