Prof Brett Cohen

Research Associate

Brett Cohen holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town, where he is appointed as an Honorary Professor. He is also a director of Enuity Consulting, where his work centres on climate risks and opportunities, greenhouse gas emissions accounting, energy and climate change scenarios and futures planning, and mitigation technology evaluation, with a focus on the energy and industrial sectors. Through his work, he contributes to evidence-based climate and energy policy development and strategic planning in the face of complexity and uncertainty. Examples of recent projects include work on the PCC’s NDC recommendations, development and analysis of various aspects of South Africa’s climate mitigation system, socio-economic scenarios development based on quantitative modelling, CBAM analysis, and green hydrogen strategy development. He is also actively involved in training and capacity building for climate policy compliance across all levels of government. Brett is a lead author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Sixth and Seventh Assessment Reports and is a C2 rated researcher under the NRF researcher rating system.
