Benjamin Alheit

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Benjamin Alheit recently completed his PhD at the University of Cape Town and currently holds a Postdoctoral Fellowship to conduct research within CME and CERECAM. His research interests are in the broad domain of computational solid mechanics, with a particular interest in material characterisation and modelling. During his PhD, which was focused on biological materials, he published articles in prestigious academic journals such as Acta Biomaterialia, the Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, and the Journal of the Mechanical Behaviour of Biological Materials. Additionally, he gave presentations at several conferences including the 25th International Conference on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics held in Milano, Italy. His current work concerns the prediction of microstructure evolution during processing and forming of metals. From a computational solid mechanics perspective, this involves topics such as rate-dependent crystal plasticity and multiscale modelling
