CoMSIRU at the Net-Zero Future 2024 Conference in Oslo, Norway
Four PhD students Areej Gamieldien, Jaziitha Simon, and Joanitta Ndawula and Nicholas Jarratt and their supervisor Prof Hans Beushausen represented CoMSIRU at the inaugural Net-Zero Future Conference held from Wednesday, June 19th to Friday, June 21st, 2024, at the Soria Moria Hotel in Oslo, Norway. The conference aimed to advance research, innovation, and collaboration in the pursuit of a sustainable, net-zero carbon built environment. It was organized by five academic partner institutions from five different countries including the University of Cape Town (UCT, South Africa), Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet, Norway), Iowa State University (ISU, USA), Technical University of Darmstadt (TUD, Germany), and Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK, India).
The students also got the opportunity to participate and attend the Summer School, which was held after the conference from Sunday, June 23rd to Wednesday, June 28th, 2024, at Oslo Metropolitan University in Oslo, Norway. The Summer School covered topics from retrofitting of masonry structures, durability and service life extension of structures, production of concrete products, to the notion of Biomimicry.
