The Future of Construction in Africa 2025

CoMSIRU was invited to participate in the ‘Future of Construction in Africa (FCA)’ workshop and discussion on the use of low-carbon cement in the African construction industry, hosted by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 15 to 16 September 2025. PhD candidates Areej Gamieldien and Jaziitha Simon represented CoMSIRU at the event. With Africa’s rapid population growth and increasing development needs, participants from various African countries shared insights and perspectives on sustainable construction within their local contexts. Discussions focused on the current state and outlook of sustainable construction across the continent, as well as on LC3 as a low-carbon cement technology and strategies for advancing its adoption in specific African countries.
