Sarah George
Dr Sarah George is a senior lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, while her research home is in the Centre for Materials Engineering (CME). She leads a newly established Aluminium Research group, which is a collaboration the CME, Centre for Research in Computational & Applied Mechanics (CERECAM) at UCT and various stakeholders in the local South African aluminium industry, with Hulamin Rolled product being a long-term industry partner.
Dr George’s research interests are mainly related to the thermo-mechanical processing of aluminium alloys, and the link between properties-performance and microstructure. This focus includes microstructural evolution and property development and the characterisation thereof. The techniques she commonly focuses on are microstructural characterisation using SEM, TEM, EBSD and TKD, and high temperature mechanical property development using the Gleeble 3800.
