Background

The application of froth flotation to the treatment of ores on an industrial-scale is almost always conducted in circuits that comprise many flotation cells, or banks of flotation cells, that make extensive use of recycle to achieve a target product quality. Further, the retreatment of streams by additional grinding or reagent addition is widely practiced. Research in flotation circuits is ‘themed’ into research into the development of measurement methods and protocols that can be used to analyse, simulate and optimise industrial-scale circuits, and the development of a simulation platform that can be used to integrate a set of fit-for-purpose models required to simulate a particular process.

Research Themes

Measurement Methods and Protocols: Research is focussed on the type, quantity and quality of information required to build simulation models of industrial flotation circuits to a specified purpose and confidence level, at a minimum cost, effort and ease of application.

Simulation Platform: Research is focussed on the design of the software infrastructure required to integrate a set of fit-for-purpose models required to simulate a particular process.
