Background

Associate Professor Malibongwe Manono joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at UCT as a Lecturer in July 2016 after having taught Hydrometallurgical and Pyrometallurgical Engineering elective courses at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) for a period of 2 years until June 2016. He holds an MSc.Eng in Chemical Engineering from UCT which he completed at the Centre for Minerals Research. His MSc.Eng work considered water as a reagent in flotation with a specific focus on the possible effects that water recirculation could have on the flotation performance of sulfidic ores. His work has been published and presented in international journals and conferences. He continued to explore this area of research in his PhD study which he completed in 2018. His current research interests are in the areas of froth flotation, water within flotation, industrial effluent treatment, dewatering of flotation products and value recovery from minerals and metallurgical processing waste. He has supervised many final-year Chemical Engineering projects. He also supervises postgraduate students towards their MSc(Eng) and PhD degrees. He has published in globally recognised journals and has participated in reputable international and local conferences. He also serves as a reviewer for esteemed journals in his research field and has lent his expertise to conference organising committees for international conferences as a scientific committee member.
