CeBER Research Day 2013

CeBER Research day has become one of the most anticipated events on the CeBER calendar and the fourth execution of this internal micro-conference did not disappoint. An assembly of just over 50 CeBER participants, including students, postdoctoral fellows and staff members met on the 6th of September 2013 at Old Mutual House in Bishopscourt for a day of research revelry. The schedule for the day included presentations and poster demonstrations that showcased the work of the Centre and canvassed a variety of research areas. Guest speaker, Erik de Ridder, co-founder of Inkulu Freeheid, shared his story with the group while challenging everyone as scientists and engineers, with valuable insights and skills, to increase their agitation and deepen their political engagement within South Africa. Awards went to Marc Brighton for best speaker (second year running), to Jonathan Dean for best poster and to Mark Kerr for the best feedback. The day had a “hoppy” ending with Brewing UCT offering CeBER the opportunity to taste their award-winning beers and ciders (read more here). Many thanks to this year’s organisers Thandazile Moyo, Lefa Nkadimeng and Rory Ravells for another fantastic research day.
