The International Conference on Concrete Rehabilitation, Repair and Retrofitting (ICCRRR) made it three out of three with a highly successful event in 2012. Both previous ICCRRR conferences were also held in the scenic city of Cape Town, bringing together persons from industry and academia for a memorable week of knowledge exchange.

The 2012 event was organized in honour of the retiring Professor Joost Walraven who has produced seminal work in concrete research and technology. Numerous noteworthy delegates were in attendance including world renowned researchers such as Professors Lars-Olof Nilsson, Arnon Bentur and Douglas Hooton.

The conference is growing as evidenced by the number of countries represented which rose from 42 in the previous event to 52 in 2012. The 450 delegates in attendance presented 240 papers over the one week period. Highlights included papers from sub-themes such as Innovative Materials and Influences of Material Composition as well as Developments in Materials Technology, Assessment and Processing. Running in tandem with the ICCRRR was the International Union of Labs and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RILEM) week, headed by newly elected RILEM President for 2012, and CoMSIRU's very own, Professor Mark Alexander.
