CoMSIRU prides themselves on their graduates as they go out into industry to develop themselves and learn as well as apply the skills they have gained...

Lombe Mutale, a 2009 undergraduate transfer from the University of Namibia and a 2013 DST Women in Science fellow, successfully graduated with her master's degree in structural engineering. Her thesis topic was "An Investigation into the Relationship between Surface Concrete Resistivity and the Chloride Conductivity Test". She is currently working at NWE Consulting Engineers located in Bellville in the Western Cape.

Amongst other June graduates was Zaahir Makadam, the former head tutor for Structures I, and Mfundo Vezi who also both graduated with their master’s degrees in structural engineering. Mfundo received a pass with distinction for his dissertation which was focused on dynamic modeling of arch dams in the ambient state. The CoMSIRU soccer team will definitely miss him on the field as he has relocated to Sierre Leone where he is currently working with Steffanutti Stocks.

Last but certainly not least we salute Dr Mike Otieno for obtaining his PhD and thank him for the great contribution he has made to the department. Dr Otieno not only lectured Structures I, he was also involved in other work within the department. We hope that he is settling in well at Witwatersrand University where he has taken on a full time lecturing position.

We wish all our CoMSIRU graduates nothing short of the best for the journey ahead, we congratulate them for their hard work and we are certainly confident they willl continue to excel in their chosen career paths!
