CoMSIRU hosts international think tank on concrete repair
CoMSIRU is proud to host yet another International Conference on Concrete Repair, Rehabilitation and Retrofitting (ICCRRR) Cape Town. First held in 2005 and now in its 5th edition, the ICCRRR has established itself as one of the leading gatherings in the field globally. CoMSIRU has been one of the driving forces behind this success and it very much intends to retain this position.
At the ICCRRR, equipment suppliers, practicing engineers and researchers from across the world are coming together to advance new construction and monitoring technologies as well as new materials that are vital to ensure that concrete infrastructures are durable and sustainable for future generations.
The CoMSIRU team looked forward to welcoming everyone back to the Southern tip of Africa. Emer. Prof. Mark G. Alexander, Prof. Hans Beushausen and 18 CoMSIRU students attended the conference. Prof. Hans Beushausen comments: “I’m always thrilled to be part of this dynamic group and engage with experts on not only keep existing infrastructure intact but also considering infrastructure sustainability from the get-go – with new projects, research and development. It’s also a great opportunity for us to anchor our lab and field work in the international domain.”
The ICCRRR 2018, held 19-21 November 2018, was organised in collaboration between Concrete Materials and Structural Integrity Research Unit (CoMSIRU), UCT, South Africa and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. Participants of the ICCRRR were able to prolong their stay and attend a RILEM course on “Repair and Rehabilitation of Concrete Structures”. The five-day practical workshop was conducted at CoMSIRU’s facilities at the UCT’s Upper Campus subsequent to the conference.
