The University of Cape Town joined The Concrete Society of South Africa (CSSA) in celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The golden jubilee was commemorated with the installation of a concrete seat at UCT’s New Engineering Building.

UCT’s Professor Marianne Vanderschuren, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, and Emeritus Professor Mark Alexander of the Department of Civil Engineering and President of the CSSA delivered words of thanks at the unveiling event on 17 April.

The concrete seat is one of six presented to universities across South Africa. At UCT, the seat is located at Snape Plaza where it can be enjoyed by students as a bench. The seat serves as a focal manifestation of CSSA’s ongoing strong relationship with UCT and UCT’s research unit, CoMSIRU

Congratulations CSSA!

CSSA is a registered non-profit organisation promoting excellence and innovation in the use of concrete and related products and services. The Society also provides a forum for networking and technology transfer between its members and industry. It is a partner of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
