Improving material efficiency by decarbonizing concrete production: Insights
A new paper co-authored by Emeritus Prof. Mark Alexander of CoMSIRU, Josefine Olsson, and Associate Prof. Sabbie Miller from the University of California, Davis, USA, delves into near-term pathways for decarbonising global concrete production. The findings given in the publication demonstrate that, within the flexibility of current concrete design methods, and by practising strategies of life extension of concrete infrastructure and ensuring durable design, the carbon emissions of concrete infrastructure can be reduced by as much as 76%, without costly changes in manufacturing or materials.
