SAIMM Western Cape 2019 Mineral Research Showcase
The Western Cape branch of the Southern African Institute for Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM Western), recently held its Minerals Research Showcase. It’s a student-organised conference where postgraduates from the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, and the University of Western Cape get to showcase their research. This year marked the 37th time the conference has been held, although only the second time in its current student-led biannual format.
The 2019 Showcase, themed 'Innovative and Resourceful Paths,' took place at the River Club conference venue on the 11th – 12th of November. A total of 60 delegates presented their research work (38 orals and 22 poster presentations). The presentations covered multidisciplinary field aspects: flotation, geology, comminution, big data, process control and monitoring, bioengineering, hydrometallurgy, etc. Apart from the awesome presentation given by the delegates, it was a privilege to be joined by Council Members of the International Mineral Processing Congress (IMPC) and the SAIMM Western Cape branch President. Overall, the showcase was a success and ended on a good note.
The Centre for Minerals Research (CMR) is very proud to have had 11 students participating in the showcase. We also congratulate Dineo Mashaba (MSc student) on being awarded first place for best poster presentation. Congratulations Dineo!
