The Crystallisation and Precipitation Unit is a group of curious and dynamic “pattern-sniffers”. We are passionate about the planet; sincere about sustainability and committed to research into crystallization and precipitation. We investigate precipitation processes, which are mostly empirically based. This often leads to problems in process control as well as poor particle characteristics. Our aim is to improve the scientific understanding of these processes for scale-up, optimisation and control.
recipitation processes are currently primarily empirically based, and a key aim of CPU is to improve the scientific understanding of these processes for scale-up, optimisation and control.
Our focus is on precipitation and crystallization research, mainly connected to the minerals industry and to water treatment. Specific projects involve treatment of desalination brines and precious metal precipitation. One of our exciting flagship projects is the novel Eutectic Freeze Crystallization Project, whilst our newest exciting project is all about recovering Rare Earth Elements from waste.
