Gia Kang

MSc Student

Gia matriculated from Curro Aurora High School in 2012. She was rated in the Top 1% in the IEB Matric examinations for English and Biology and was named Curro Aurora’s Dux Scholar in her year. Gia went on to study a BSc(Eng) in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cape Town, graduating in 2017 with First Class Honours. She was named on the Dean’s Merit List in 2015 and 2016 and received the Bain Merit Award in 2017.

In 2018, Gia began work on her MSc under the supervision of A/Prof. Steeve Chung Kim Yuen. Her research is focused on studying the destructive effect of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by numerically modelling the structural response of containment vessels exposed to a charge combined with projectiles. She presented her work at the SAIMechE Postgraduate Conference in 2018.
