Launch of Future Water Institute

Date: 8th September 2016
On the 8th September 2016, CeBER joined Prof Sue Harrison and the UCT community in launching the Future Water Institute at UCT. The launch event welcomed the Minister of Water and Sanitation, government officials, industry professionals and academics from ten different departments at UCT. Six faculties (from engineers to social anthropologists) comprise this unprecedented interdisciplinary initiative that hopes to shape the landscape of future water within South Africa and the world. Professor Harrison who holds dual-directorship of CeBER and Future Water, has been explicit in her explanation that water scarcity is the top long-term global risk that society faces today. Its intricate link to food, energy, health and economic development in addition to its declining supply and increasing demand, places us on the road to international crisis.
