CeBER Outreach 2016

Date: 27th September 2016
It was in the midst of campus chaos that CeBER, in partnership with Zeiss Microscopy, embarked on this year’s visit to Siyazhaka Primary school. This community outreach programme has become an annual excursion, designed to encourage grade 6 students in their place of learning; exposing them to fun scientific concepts and exciting demonstrations, using practical, every-day solutions. With this term’s curriculum-based energy theme, the CeBER team prepared experiments that ranged from powering LEDs to launching home-made rockets. During the course of the afternoon, learners were offered a new perspective on the world through the lenses of two Zeiss microscopes – which revealed the magnified wonders of ordinary objects. Beyond these experimental exhibitions, scholars were given the opportunity to engage with a racially diverse CeBER Team – the most crucial and mutually-beneficial interaction of the day. The CeBER Outreach team would like to thank all the volunteers for their participation, as well as CeBER and Zeiss for the contribution towards and support of this endeavour.
