This year, CeBER PhD Student Gordon Dodge, was nominated for two prestigious Rowing South Africa awards – one of which he won in his category. For the award period of 2017, Gordon was nominated for both the Administrator of the Year Award and Volunteer of the Year. He won the Administrator title, beating three other finalists who had been nominated from around the country. Gordon has served as Chairman of the USSA-Rowing Executive Committee for three consecutive years and his strong leadership skills, dedication and willingness to help others have been cited as some of the motivations behind him receiving this award. In the past year, Gordon has worked tirelessly in the development and implementation of new initiatives within USSA Rowing - championing transformation and growing the sport in all possible ways; two of these include the Universities Novice Ergo Ladder and a mixed gender race at the USSA-R National Sprints Regatta. In October 2017, Gordon was elected onto the University Sport South Africa National Executive Committee where he will now not only assist with the operational side of University sport nationally, but he will also act as a mentor for student leaders for a variety of sporting codes. Congratulations Gordon on a series of outstanding achievements.
