The Rock Solids team, made up of members from the Crystallization and Precipitation Research Unit (CPU) and the Analytical Lab are proud winners of the 2022 Chem Eng Cup. This is a five-a-side soccer tournament, which annually takes places at the Kopano Astroturf between postgraduate students and staff from the various research groups within the Chemical Engineering Department.

CPU and the Analytical Lab are small entities of their own, which resulted in the winning formula. Other teams presented themselves to be intimidating and professional looking with full matching soccer kits, while Rock Solids underplayed their value with only neon yellow bibs to set them apart.

After easing through the group stages and semi-finals, Rock Solids were presented with their biggest challenge yet, facing CMR FC in the finals. It was hotly contested with goals on each side. A controversially disallowed goal from CMR FC catalysed their downfall as Rock Solids ended the match Champions with a score of 2 - 1.

Player of the tournament also went to member of Rock Solids, Madimetsa Matau. His incredible dribbling skills and striker's instinct in front of the goal was the ultimate winning key.

Well done to fellow players, referees, organisers and supporters for the fun and extremely competitive day.
