Dr Sherlyn Gabriel

Senior Lecturer

Sherlyn is currently appointed as a Senior Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department, UCT and has an undergraduate teaching focus in the manufacturing area.

Sherlyn completed her BSc (Eng) in Mechanical Engineering degree at UCT in 2013. She went on to complete her PhD and has most recently been a Post-doctoral Research Fellow with Prof Chung Kim Yuen in BISRU. Her current research focusses on investigating blast behaviour in urban environments, and she has published several peer-reviewed articles from her research. She has expressed a passion for issues of sustainability and implementing sustainable practices in various areas including manufacturing and processing of materials. Along with that, it seems she likes to destroy specimens she spent months manufacturing in hopes of determining their response to an explosive load... because you never know when that can happen… They do say to prepare for the unexpected.
