Lia Carstens

MSc Student

Lia matriculated from Hoërskool Noordheuwel in 2018, obtaining a distinction for all her 7 subjects. She was also the only one in her grade group, that received colours for all four categories namely sports; culture; academics and leadership.
She went on to study a BEng in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in 2019 and graduated in minimum time without ever subbing or redoing a module. Lia’s undergraduate final year project involved predicting and measuring the loads on the human lumbar spine during whole-body vibration in different driving conditions for vehicle design purposes.
Lia is currently pursuing her MSc(Eng) under the supervision of Dr Trevor Cloete. Her research is focused on the multi-species strain rate testing of fresh cortical bone alongside storage degradation studies.
