Blast Injury Workshop
On Wednesday, 27 March, BISRU played host to a blast injury workshop in collaboration with the Blast Injury Research Network (BIRN) and the University of Southampton. The workshop provided a multi-disciplinary environment where engineers, clinicians and industrial experts could weigh in on blast events and injuries. This included discussions surrounding landmine removal and the explosive remnants of war (ERW) legislation, prevention and treatment of blast injuries and where we should focus our research efforts next to make a difference.
The conference boasted attendees from all over the world, including engineers, scientists and clinicians from the University of Cape Town and the University of Southampton, as well as members of the CSIR, Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) organisation, personal protective equipment manufacturer, Security Devices, and the HALO Trust demining charity.
A more detailed report of the workshop may be found in the linked article, "Joint bid to tackle blast injuries".
