Internship at WEF for UCT post graduate student
Corey Beavon is currently a master’s student in the Minerals to Metals Signature theme at UCT, specialising in sustainable mineral development. Corey is working on projects that include: how to operationalise the Sustainable Development Goals in the South African mining industry and investigating the barriers and opportunities to growth in the Industrial mineral industry of South Africa.
He has been accepted for an internship at the World Economic Forum (WEF) and is working on ensuring the Sustainable development Goals are integrated into the Responsible Mining Development Initiative (RMDI) which is a flagship project at WEF. The RMDI is a multi-stakeholder tool that provides practical mechanisms to measure and communicate the needs and expectations of different stakeholders in the mining industry and is currently being implemented in Guinea. Corey’s work involves identifying the relationship between the SDGs and the current RMDI, highlighting strong synergies and pinpointing weakly represented SDGs.
