Formula Student Africa (FSA) is an extension of the globally recognised Formula Student initiative, aimed at challenging university students across Africa to design, build, and race electric formula-style cars. This project is designed to foster innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and sustainability, providing students with a unique educational opportunity.
FSA UCT is a unique platform that allows UCT students to further devolved their technical prowess and cultivates skills in project management, teamwork, and effective communication. It provides invaluable experience, bridging the gap between theoretical education and real-world engineering challenges.
The FSA UCT Team project aligns with UCT's Vision 2030 by nurturing a diverse and creative student body, offering excellence, transformative and sustainable education. It also encourages research that addresses complex contemporary issues. It serves as a testament to UCT's commitment to fostering innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of well-rounded, capable graduate, which “attracts students with exceptional potential from our country, our continent and our world”. FSA UCT, positions UCT at the forefront of educational innovation and relevance
The Department of Electrical Engineering is committed to supporting this project through state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and technical expertise. Our labs, equipped with advanced simulation software and precision instrumentation, offer the resources necessary for students to explore innovative solutions and refine their engineering designs.
The technical support from our experienced faculty and staff, under the Supervision of Associate Professor David Oyedokun, is vital to the project's success. Our team is dedicated to guiding students through the complex process of vehicle development, providing insights and feedback on design iterations, and assisting with troubleshooting technical challenges.
