Selected as a 2018 UNLEASH talent
Dr Dyllon Randall from the Department of Civil Engineering has been selected as a 2018 UNLEASH talent. UNLEASH is a global innovation lab that brings together people from all over the world to transform 1 000 personal insights into hundreds of ideas and build lasting global networks around the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. This year the innovation lab is taking place in Singapore from May 30 – June 6.
Randall was chosen as one of 1000 “talents” under the age of 35 because of his commitment to developing innovative solutions to meet the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. This was based on his current work on resource recovery from wastewaters, specifically from urine. The competition sources top talents from across the world to create real, scalable solutions to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The participants go through a facilitated process of innovation. They form teams to explore real-life challenges within the SDG themes from multiple angles, before defining specific problems and coming up with preliminary solutions. These solutions are tested with leading experts and company partners, then refined, and ultimately presented to peers and panels of judges and mentors.
All teams present their solutions and the top teams advance to present their solutions to investors and experts where a gold, silver and bronze winner is chosen.
