Jabulani Nyathi, a chemical engineering 2019 graduate, is the recipient of a Cecil Renaud Overseas Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to the best and brightest young South Africans who completed their secondary schooling in Kwazulu-Natal. It is granted annually for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom at a university of the student's choice.

Growing up in Nelspruit, at the age of 12, Jabulani's life changed when he was offered the opportunity to attend the Drakensberg Boys' Choir School. He said, "Ever since, I have been fortunate to have people believe in my potential and invest financially to ensure that I get the education I have been afforded. Coming from a single-parent home meant that finances would be a major hurdle for me to realize my dreams. However, this has thus far not been a hindrance which I feel blessed to say."

Jabulani is passionate about making a positive impact in the world. He believes his talents have been given to him to make a change. He hopes to use his chemical engineering background to create a future for generations to come, where their needs will be met. He is waiting to receive his acceptance into the MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development at Cambridge University.

"I am excited for the opportunity that the Cecil Renaud Overseas Scholarship has unlocked and incredibly grateful for the well-rounded education and foundation that I received at UCT in the Chemical Engineering Department," Jabulani said.
