The Geotechnical Engineering Research Group’s focus is on finding cost-effective and sustainable ways of improving the engineering properties of foundation soils to ensure the safety and reliability of civil engineering projects.
Research activities are undertaken in the areas of ground improvement, geo-synthetics, soil testing (both laboratory and in-situ testing), soil-structure interaction and numerical analyses. To improve understanding of the fundamental behaviour of engineering soils, comprehensive courses have been developed to engage students and industry, with an emphasis on the application of geotechnical processes to solve engineering problems.
