The department’s research groups work closely with industry to stay at the forefront of electrical engineering trends worldwide. Degrees are offered in electrical; electrical and computer; and mechatronics.
Three four-year degrees are offered at the undergraduate level:
- BSc in Electrical Engineering
- BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering
- BSc in Mechatronics.
Students develop their minds and nurture their abilities to conceptualise, analyse and solve problems.
Postgraduate students over the opportunity to join Research groups who cover a wide range of subjects, including neural networks, acoustics, design of computer communication protocols, the simulation of electricity markets, the use of computer control and instrumentation to optimise process performance, the design of wind generators and telecommunications.

What is electrical engineering?
Electrical engineering is the branch of the engineering profession responsible for the planning and design of systems using electricity, either as a form of energy (so-called heavy-current or electrical engineering) or as a means of representing, storing, and transmitting information (light-current or electronic engineering).
Career opportunities
Electrical and electronic engineers work in many organisations and companies, including private consultation firms and development laboratories, large and small private enterprises involved with the design, development, production, and marketing of electronic systems, subsystems, and components of products, as well as in government.
Graduates of the mechatronics programme can be found building underwater robots, designing artificial intelligence software to identify faulty machinery, designing new packaging systems for bottled beverages, and developing diagnostic systems for the next generation of motor vehicles.
