Stephen Paine

Programme Convenor

Stephen graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc in Electrical Engineering in 2014 before pursuing an MSc(eng), specialising in Radar and Electronic Defense under the supervision of Prof. Daniel O'Hagan. Upon completion of the MSc(eng) degree in late 2015, Stephen started his PhD research on Electronic Countermeasures Applied to Passive Radar, also under the supervision of Prof. O'Hagan.  During his time as a PhD student, Stephen was head TA for the radar masters program and now lectures co-lectures the microwave course.

Barry Downing

Prof Barry Downing is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cape Town.

Until the middle of 2014, he was the Course Convenor of the Radar Masters programme and lectured the Microwave and Antennas course.

Mike Inggs

Prof Michael Inggs is an Emeritus Professor (since 2016) in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Cape Town, South Africa, being the founder in 2011 of the taught masters programme in Radar. During 2015 he handed over the Convenorship of the Radar Masters, being on sabbatical leave before retirement at the end of 2016.

He currently is appointed at the Space Advisory Company as Principal Radar Systems Engineer.

Francois Schonken

Francois recieved his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Stellenbosch.

After completing a post-doctorate, Francois joined the UCT staff and teaches undergradute electrical courses.

Francois will be lecturing a Microwave Components course in 2019.

Andrew Wilkinson

Associate Prof. Andrew Wilkinson has worked as a lecturer for UCT, and has taught at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

His research interests include: Signals & Image Processing, Radar, SAR Interferometry, Tomography, Bayesian Interference, Inverse Problems and RF Power Amplifiers.

Pieter Gideon Wiid

Pieter Gideon Wiid (SM, IEEE) received his degrees in electronic engineering from the University of Stellenbosch. He worked with the Western Cape Distribution section of Eskom for six years. In 2010, he rejoined SU as a post-doctoral fellow and continued as a lecturer from 2011 to 2016. He also worked for SARAO as a senior researcher in 2017. In 2020 he moved to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) to do research on EMC for nanosatellites. In 2022, he moved to the University of Cape Town (UCT) to join the Radar Remote Sensing Group of the Electrical Engineering Department

Nicole Moodley  

Nicole Moodley

Nicole is the Administrative Assistant for Postgraduate Students in the Department of Electrical Engineering.

She is responsible for advising students on the application process, and arranging registration.
