Dr Pieter de Villiers obtained his Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
He then proceeded to complete his PhD at the University of Cambridge, UK in statistical signal processing (particle filtering) under Prof Simon Godsill. He obtained his PhD in 2008.
Since 2010, he has been working on establishing a data fusion capability at the Radar and Electronic Warfare competency at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in Pretoria, South Africa. He is also a former director of the Centre for Telecommunications Engineering for the Information Society (CeTEIS), which is currently based at the CSIR.
Pieter’s research interests include data fusion, target tracking, Bayesian inference, nonlinear filtering, pattern recognition, graphical models and machine learning.
