In the news: Using satellite data to identify sinkholes

The postgraduate research work of Dr Jeanine Engelbrecht on the use of data from earth orbiting satellites to determine places where land subsidence, related to mining activities, is likely to occur, was featured in an article in the Mail and Guardian in February 2014. (PDF available here).

Dr Engelbrecht completed her PhD in the Radar Remote Sensing Group at the University of Cape Town in 2013. Her thesis focused on “Parameters affecting interferometric coherence and implications for long-term operational monitoring of mining-induced deformation”.

We are very pleased that she will be sharing her knowledge and experience in the practical applications of Synthetic Aperture Radar during a course in early September 2014 (more info here).
